NBA Free Agents Who Should Just Hang It Up (Part 1)

The 2010 Free Agency Extravaganza focused on the question in everyone's mind which was where are the studs -- LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Amare, Boozer and the guy who has two names, Joe Johnson -- going to end up. However, the real question that demands attention is: "Who needs to just hang it up?"

Boston Celtics 2010 Free Agency Signees

The NBA free agency sweepstakes is about to come to a screeching halt leaving some teams happy and some fans ready to jump off tall buildings (thank God there are no tall buildings in Ohio). But will these latest big-time free agency moves translate to the most important thing in the NBA; Wins. And will this really change the landscape of the NBA or is everyone still chasing the Lakers who are well on their way to a three-peat.

English Premier League Says Vuvuzelas Drown Out Racist Chants
  • Several English Premier League clubs (said with all the snootiness I can muster) announced that the sweet melodic hum of the South African vuvuzelas is not welcome at the sophisticated soccer matches played in front of the well-mannered and highly-educated fans of futbol.  The clubs are worried that the vuvuzelas will "drown out crowd noise" (i.e. - our drunken songs and racist chants). ACLU is calling for soccer fans to unite and  download the iphone vuvuzela app to play during the first match, August 14.  EPL officials believe the horns pose safety concerns as the noise could "prevent spectators from hearing safety announcements such as evacuation instructions."  However, the real reason for the ban is the fear that the vuvuzelas would replace the large stick up the EPL's ass.
  • Ohio Children Making Lemonade out of LeBron’s Lemons
  • If only children governed the world, what a place it would be. Leave it to kids to turn a negative situation into a positive one. The tornado of hostility is still swirling in Cleveland, with new reports of LeBron's boys getting into it with a woman over a diamond pendant, but some young kids decided they needed to help out Cavaliers millionaire owner Dan Gilbert. Gilbert was fined $100,000 for his letter and comments after LeBron bolted for Miami. So the local kids decided to sell lemonade to help out their loyal owner. Of course Gilbert can pay the fine, so the proceeds from the 50 cent-a-cup lemonade stand will be donated to Cleveland Cavaliers Youth Fund. But it's just another reminder that children, regardless of the situation, still have the best of intentions. If we could all be so kindhearted. (more...)
